as far as i know, 1.28 servers are not illegal. hell, the gserver for it is freeware.

It's not freeware!

You can setup a v1.27 server as long as it is only
used for local networks games.

I miss the old days when people could make their own server. Cause most of those servers were WAY better than the playerworlds are now. It was fun when guilds could make their own server for the members to play on. Why cant we have that now?

I think what it is, is that you can run a 1.28 Gserver in private with only a few people, for testing PWs, levels, NPCs in online mode, etc. But you can't run one as if it is its own playerworld and advertise it and make a website for it etc.

It was written in the readme.txt of those
older versions that the gserver is only for
local networks.
The Graal client is free, that doesn't mean that
your are allowed to distribute it , modify it etc.,
so its not freeware
Player-run servers are a good idea but since
the server is the only source of income we
cannot allow it. E.g. counterstrike has free
servers, but they are making money with selling
the game, so the game client itself is not free,
but it includes a server (of simple and
limited architecture)

Well 1.28 has crap scripting and stuff compared to now, players don't alter the client at all with 1.28 gserver.

I remember when Graal had that dns problem and no one was able to connect to Graal except for staff. So everyone started 1.28 servers to pass the time.

Why would hosting a game on your own computer be illegal? What is Stefan gonna do, sue 14 and 15 year old kids?

Unixmad I think tried to move all servers to Graal..... I couldnt believe it when Damasca gave in.... I mean I liked that server... And I hated it when they moved to Graal =/

I couldn't believe it either. However, they refused to go P2P, but died shortly after when XDaKreepX deleted their main continent and quit working. Since they no longer had their best levels and didn't want to use the Graal client anymore, they're working on making their own client and server software for themselves.

Well I've already paid fifty dollars canadian for Graal, I could buy counter-strike for less. I think subscribers should get a 'mini-gserver' when they pay for graal and they could host their own servers with almost as many options etc as with g2k1. And then in the Graal client you could choose private or public online mode, and for private you could put in the person's IP to go onto their server. I expect that this would boost sales too, becuase lots of people would want to make their own servers (not playerworlds)

thats a good idea
and there account would have to be valid so if there year ran out, and they wanted to continue to run the server they would have to re upgrade

People might use copy right stuff making graal responsible for it so it wouldnt be a good idea..... If a PW other then graal has copy right ... Stefan can still get in trouble......

Tybalt I was just thinking that same thing well I was reading page 2! Stefan that would make sales go very very high. People looooove doing stuff like that believe me a bunch more accounts would be upgraded and lots more people would come to graal. Plus it may help with the lag.
