This is the finished Chat system.
Liek OMG!

the first line, this system is up on providence, and maybe if you are good screen_name will let you try it out, this guy obviously was not good becuase as it states, it was taken.

the second line, the pink one, is what you say in the global chat, in global chat, when you chat it is pink, but when others do it is white.

the 3rd line, the darkish yellow, is when you call a GM, you see this and also only GM's see this.

4th line is GM chat, kinda like guild message, but in the chat, only GM's are in here (obviously)

5th line is you whispering to people, it confirms that you did it, as you can see.

6th line, this is you getting the whisper, screen_name whispered to himself, har har.

here are the commands:

/say <message>
/whisper <account> <message>
/callgm <reason>
/saygm <message> ((this is for the GM only chat))
/setlines <amount> ((sets how many lines the chat box is))
/namelength <amount> ((sets how long your name is in chat))

emotions you can put:
/laugh
/dance
/confused
/bored
/angry
/annoyed
/cry

And, to clear the text:
/clear

now that this is done screen_name is going to start on the char selection, where you can have up to 3 characters, and when you set there name it is final unless you give a GM good reason to change...

P.s. you can see our small magic and hp bars, may be changed, but thats what we have for now.

we are hoping stefan will make pm's a server option *wink* *wink*, because we do not want to use them, this chat system would be all we wanted.

But wouldn't that just lag up the NPC server like on 2k2? And when this one crashed, I'm sure it would take Stefan or Unixmad a little longer to put it up then they put 2k2's NPC server up.

2k2's lag isnt becuase of the chat system, well a little might be, but thats because, its, well weird....every server has tested or had a chat system at one time, well most at least, believe me "lag-free"

if they flood it, we can take it away from them, as i explained in my first post, and then they have no way to communicate= no flooders= lag free again

Making a serverside NPC do infinite timeouts and stuff will cause a server to lag, so if you script the NPC half-ass yes it can lag.

BUT, if you do it right it wont.

Well, I just enjoy it more than PMs for some reason

I will also be adding some commands so you can talk to your fellow Kingdom members as well as some more emotions, etc, etc.

Here is a list of all the features:

/say <message> - Global chat, shows pink for yourself, white for everyone else, GMs global chat will be greenish
/whisper <account> <message> - Whispers to account, will tell you if you could whisper to that account, will tell you what you whispered to who, if it couldn't reach the account, ie spelled wrong, offline, it will tell you it couldn't be sent, shows up purplish
/callgm <reason> - sends a message to all GMs on, shows up a light goldish color
/saygm <message> - GM chat, will only be displayed to GMs, shows up cyan
/setlines <amount> - temporary, will be replaced soon, sets the amount of chat lines you'll see
/namelength <amount> - temporary, will be replace soon with a better option where you can choose how much of nicknames you want to see in the chat, sets how much of your nickname will be displayed in your messages

emotions show up in yellow, will be adding a lot more

there will also be an option to disable global chat, whispers, there will be floodchecking, and wordwrapping soon

The only thing that is serverside is when you do something that has to be sent globally, parsing, displaying, etc, is dont clientside

as for flooding, there will be a floodcheck, so you can only send something serverside every 7-10 seconds or so

Mykel, the "taking" the system is only for testing right now, so i can let people test and stuff

But if people abuses the chat system, i can make it so they wont be able to use any of the commands, it will simply be a notification system for them, but they will still receive chat and stuff

i flooded it with 15 emotions today, wasn't as laggy as i thought

and i have a sucky butt computer

I doubt stefan will let you disable PMs.

One of the restrictions on Trial accounts is that you can only send one PM every 60 seconds. With this new system, they'd be able to talk freely.

It's easy just script it so you can only send pm's to RC's and make it a hidden npc in your inventory kind of like being in no pmjail.

If you make the no pm jail into a weapon script and put it in the inventory it should work no problem. If not you could just put the no pm jail script in every single level.

Yes but you could still PM RC's since they cant see the chat system any ways.

Ok think about what you're saying. Where does the chat appear? An RC isnt on graal. They cant see the text. Unless you want all of the text to go into the RC window which would be annoying. You could perhaps make the important pm's go to the RC chat but PM's would be better for RC that way it still flashes at you.

If you could disable toalls and make all the chat appear in the RC toalls screen, it might work.

I still think PMs to RCs would be much much better though.

I had thought of that too. But what then if the RC doesnt have his toalls up and some one needs help. -_- or he his his RC window maximized and cant see some one calling for help in the RC Chat window.

Havint to and actually doing are to totally different things and I can almost guarantee no one will. Some times I log on RC and close everything while I'm online doing something else just incase if there is a problem some one could PM me and I could help them. But if I had to watch the window all the time I'd say forget it. Which is what many people would do.

You seem rather niave about it. It's not an LAT's Nat's GAT's job to have the window open and help people. They make stuff for the server. But if they're on they normally will try to help. If they have to constantly watch a window to see if some one needs help they wont be able to get as much work done. Or they wont be on as much becuase they will have to read constant dribble about pointless crap in the off chance some one needs help.
Even if it is there "Job" to watch it. Almost no one is going to have it open all the time watching it. No one will log on when they're online just incase some one might need them. Because why bother logging on if you're doing something else? Because you have to watch the chat to be able to help.

duuude, we arent going to haave NAT's LAT's and GAT's, you have to know a lil bout the server. We a4e goin to have those while we make the server, but then they will become "GM's", only directed to help people, and build things when needed, and it will be everyones job to help, you see?

If im not mistaken, Trial Players cannot use weapons o.O
And since the Chat System would be a npc, there would be no problem. Hmm, If they can, you can ask stefan to add something for the npc to pick out upgraded and non upgraded accounts. So that way only the upgradeded accounts get the chat system.
