shield?

Noticed something.

If you swing your sword, while you're swinging, the shield becomes completely useless. Didn't it used to block the direction it was facing? I mean granted, the GANI probably needs to be changed so it covers all 4 directions, but shouldn't the shield, when you're in sword.gani, block arrows from (dir-1)%4 ?

I liked that feature. It was a huge relief when I was swinging at a baddy and the arrow from another baddy bounced off.
I could just script it, but it'd just be more clutter in the system...

Speaking of which, not a bug report but I scripted spin.gani to deal radial damage on Classic...Stefan, if you want the code, it's really simple, and would probably port well. It's made spin a useful defense against baddies, as it'll throw them clear across the room, rather than a nuisance that opens you up to attacks.

I personally think that the shield should be a more interactive item, such as it is in games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, where it could be drawn at times to block attacks and projectiles from hitting your character.

Yeah, but that'd require an additional key being reserved for it...automatic is fine, I just like it to be a constant.

We will better shields in Graal2002 (it's a 'weapon').
The shield thing in classic mode should still be the
same (its not always playerdir-1, when facing east
then it blocks north)

Yes automatic is fine.. it would be neat if the shield actually blocked more things.. such as sword attacks from the front, maybe bushes... I mean these are projectiles/weapons just like fireball and arrow.. you should be able to block more things with the shield basically..

I think arrows sticking in the shield and walls and being able to be picked back up would be cool.. and even bouncing off the shield and actually doing damage and being seen server side (instead of it bouncing off the shield for the client only)
