For something like a kart map it only requires a simplistic layout and I think that layouts are what are supposed to be setting one map apart from another (whether this is a different variation to other kart maps on UN I don't know), but I too feel that the tiling is a very poor representation of the theme, it's essentially your normal castle tiles (when there is an alternative within pics1.png that actually does come across as more creepy) with lots of halloween trees (doesn't exactly make sense) and only a small portion of lava (might have been better to use in a larger quantity).

GK's balloons are so amazing.

But, for a track titled "Forest Frenzy" I thought there would be a lot more...forest, and less...insides?

I mean, I think the castle track had more trees. It should have been all outside, not inside tiles. (Quality over quantity!!!)

A common trend seems to be that one or two posts gets deleted controversially, which leads to complaints, which leads to the whole thread spiraling out of control, causing the bulk of the threads' problems (and by extension: the forums' problems) to remain largely the fault of the moderation team for liberal use of their powers.

The levels would be a lot better if they weren't so bland there could of easily been some proper floor detailing, and the go-karts would look a lot better if they didn't extend out so much.

Well go actually look at some Mario Kart tracks. They're not just generic looking roads. They're themed, filled with traps and shortcuts that contribute to said theme. Even the ones that are boring "circuit" tracks still have generic racing theme traps. Both of these are just... castle floors with castle walls and then some stuff outside of it that has nothing to do with the race. The things thrown on the track to shake it up, the moving black orb and... oil slicks? Yeah okay. Those things don't really apply to theme of the track itself, but instead just thrown in there to spice up a bland level.

The graphics are also bad looking.


Although I'm not sure who this post is directed to - this is a news thread, not development. As far as I know, Matt's not staff.

Should get some custom track graphics made, use that as the focus point so that directions are obvious, and everything else would just be background scenery. Here's an extremely messy test level of graphics that Dusty made for me in 2008 for example.

I know I'm not the greatest dev, but I have been making tracks. I'm working on a new one that will have lots of interesting things in it, such as custom graphics, tracks, etc.. I will spend a long time on it to make it perfect.

PS The oil is a trap that a player drops so I don't know if that counts as part of the track...

Yes, there were a few tracks from the previous GoKart version that have already been set up for this new system.

And I'm working hard on the next track and I will integrate your ideas. I'm trying to make this new track the best track, not only level wise, but with cool traps and features to the track.

I think you should have a track where the tiling consists of red carpet, brown house bricks, red house roof edges, wooden stakes, castle steps used as floor, castle carpet edges, with random floor designs.

There should be lots of alternate routes on the track where some turns would lead to a dead end.

There should be doors scattered around with signs overhanging them with the text "Hat Shop", with showcharacter npcs running around outside them with the chat "OMG NEW HATS" which you have to dodge, there should be other showcharacters running around various places on the track with chat such as "Can you help me?" or "I don't know what to do" which you have to deliberately drive into and run over to collect dropped gelat, where once you have enough your character will then be surrounded by lots of sparkly light effects.
