Anti aliasing, just search for "pixel tutorial" on google and you should get some nice tips.

Quick exemple of anti-aliasing.

You can have this option in paint.NET, different than the usual paint program, and it's totally free

I could have done a better line but well...it's not really great with a single line XD
But it looks really fine in a whole graphic, everyone use this now.

He wants better quality.

Well if you meant smaller pixels...eeh a pixel is a pixel, you can't do anything about that, I never seen a pixel half red and half black for exemple =P

Zoom in. 8x should be enough, really. If you want the actual PIXELS to be smaller, then you're out of luck.

Clicking the blank space in between 8x and the bottom of the box zooms in 10x!

Yup, that's exactly what I said, there's nothing smaller than a pixel, half pixel or reduced pixel is actually impossible, as a pixel is around 0,2 - 0,3 millimeters, depending on your screen resolution

There's nothing smaller than pixels. Subpixels are just a technique you can use to create the feeling that there is something smaller than pixels.
