Playerworld Request Problem

Symphonia has been waiting for Sockets for too long now. This is getting ridiculous. We have been waiting for this for months!

We've provided valid explanations of what the technology is to be used for, and the extent in which it will be used. What do we get? "Oh we'll put it on Stefan's to-do list". Too bad his to-do list is nonexistent. I've seen lazy people but this is ridiculous!

So as I will ask again. Where is our socket functionality?

(The support ticket hasn't been answered in months :/)

I sent in a support ticket and asked Stefan about the same thing, the support ticket was answered by almost everyone but Stefan, and Stefan told me that he would maybe do it and to send him a forum PM but he never replied again. >_>

... ok well how many people are gonna intercept a standard http request from the NPC-Server to your web server? Also, I don't think sockets will have SSL/SSH capabilities so....no difference?

When I asked about sockets, he said something about making it so you had to request sockets for your server as well as placing an ACL on who (IP wise) could connect to the opened socket. I would love them too but they won't open that many extra avenues.

Maybe, but I think the main problem about this case is, that the playerworlds would rather have a quick "no" than waiting and hoping for the systems forever.

We've only got one or two IPs that'll be able to connect to the server, which is my server and the website. We're not using SSL, we're using SHA1 encryption for the data, where a new key is generated every day. Its not too much to ask for >_>

The thing is sockets are available but you need to get a port unblocked for your server.

I'm not whining, I'm simply frustrated because this has been halting my development. I work as a webdesigner and I cannot continue my gameserver<->webserver communication without sockets. :/

As far as I'm concerned waiting months is more than enough reason to start whining.

Not everyone gets special treatment from Stefan like you.

I never said being upset is wrong, you probably have every right to be upset. All I am saying is that throwing a fit is not a way to get what you want, regardless of if it is towards Stefan or your mother.

When I *****ed and moaned at my mother when I wanted ice cream, I sure got it.

Maybe you should get the server out of construction first? I don't see why he'd bother giving support to a website if the website will be used for the max of 20 players who will maybe be the only ones to ever play it. Having a website for a server is just unnecessary in the first place, even less if the server isn't up.

I'm not throwing a fit.

First of all, Stefan doesn't put his paying customers first.
Second, We more than deserve it because its a simple request and we've showed that we have very valid reasons for asking for it.
Third, You need to calm down. You need to understand that we don't get all the advantages that you get.

We're not whining, its the fact that we have been waiting several months for access to the socket technology so I can continue my work. I cannot further update the Symphonian website until I get these sockets.

I know he's consumed in his own work, but he needs to put forward the effort to help his players and developers out when they need or request something simple. It's not like we're trying to destroy Graal or anything

1: You pay to get your own gserver which you can develop using the current features Graal has. No where does it say that cyberjoueurs is required implement any feature that you want even if you do have very valid justification for needing it. How many servers have actually made it classic since the whole server renting service became available? Zodiac, that's it. So of all those servers that get purchased, only one has actually made it. If you were a business owner, would you be investing most of your time into something that has a very low chance of success? I think not.

I'm not trying to defend him but rather give you a perspective to why he spends more of his time on the gold servers and improving the client for many others then for a single development server that doesn't hold much standing.

Not saying your server is bad, but it still ranks among the group of "has not yet succeeded" and until you prove otherwise, it will stay there.

2: You may have very valid reasons and you may be needing it more then humans need water; it still does not mean much when such a feature will not bring in very many customers, thus the lack of attention.

3: I am very calm, I'm simply trying to point out that there are more mature ways to get what you want. Who says I get a bunch of advantages when it comes to client features? Theres been maybe 2 or 3 things that I've requested my self the entire 8.5 years I've been on Graal and all of them were requested through standard means such as the Feature Request forum.

Yes, I agree. You still don't need to get angry at him though. When people talk to me like that, I usually just ignore them. I work in customer service too.

1: This is not a matter of having server success. Nowhere in this thread did it say anything about server success. We're talking about Symphonia. NOT Zodiac. Also, If he wanted to improve the client, he should just stop mucking around with the trials and the lot. It was perfectly fine prior to Graal 5.0.

2: It may not bring customers, but it does help maintain customers.

3: You might be calm, but that is no reason to go off on people who are asking for something to improve their server.

I know that I may seem over reactive. You work in support and know how much of a pain it is. In my time on Graal, which is longer than you might have realized, there has been no support observed. I have not seen many cases of true support by the managers of this game.

I don't think anyone does. I've tested stuff and reported bugs for releases noone else has used (external windows, universal mac, etc), but never any advantages.

Simple way to solve it ,more globals, I think there should be 1 global to everyone 100 players, that means we need about 7 more globals that would actually help players.

Stefan doesn't really want servers using sockets sparingly, since it's just starting to ask for trouble.

Live streaming of player and server data to a subserver (a.k.a my server), where the data is processed and sent to the MySQL database for storage. Also planning on implementing different methods of live communication with people visiting the website via an online applet. My servers are highly secure, terminating all connections who try to send arbitrary data.

HTTP requests have a bit of trouble in streaming data, but they're good for simple processing of data. I need sockets for the continuation of my work on the Symphonian Website so I can get out of here. Right now, I'm bound to keep working on the site until it's done, but then I have to maintenance it.

Right as of now, we only need 1 IP unblocked on 2 to 3 ports. Its not too much to ask for in my opinion, and I know how to program safeguards in case some script kiddie tries to access the server.
