Ruby Sword WIP

Hello. I've been reading these forums for a while now, but I haven't posted any graphics yet.

Heres is my latest project. Its not quite finished obviously (I still need to do the diagonal view) but I was hoping to get some comments and [constructive] criticisms on it =).

Is this for GK?
The blade is an odd shape and the handle might be a bit big, but it's original which makes it okay I guess.
The blade itself is kind of bright and isn't very detailed. It looks like you've tried to shade one side of it and left the other side alone which makes it look flat and pillow shaded at the same time. I'm not really sure how to describe the effect that you've got going on but I personally don't like it.

I'm sure you've seen other threads on the forums about swords, so just keep practicing and looking to those threads for stylistic ideas.

Sometimes minimalism is better.

Nope not for GK. My gold just ran out a couple days ago actually. Thanks for your detailed response.

I agree that the blade needs more detail, I think I'm going to try and give it a rougher more 3d look as if it was chiseled from stone (to fit the name).

I actually haven't seen many threads on swords here lately..

I have to go get ready for school now, but I'll work on the blade when I get home and post it here.

Well I think it's a good try.

Things I noticed:
- The blade looks like it's been stretched horizontally, it could stand to be a little skinnier.
- The ripples on the blade look too organic, it feels like water. They would feel better if you made them harsher, more like metal.
- The shading on the handle is too rounded.
- The bottom of the handle is huge O.o

Now that I've got some perspective it looks alot crappier then I thought 0_o.

That part isn't meant to be held. I tried to give the sword a counterweight type thing, as most heavy swords not meant for purely decorative use have them..

Guess it didn't work out as I planned though so I'll scrap it.

Ok now I think its starting to get better. Added some more texture to the blade to make it look rougher, and redid the handle to make it less rounded.

looks better with the trans, and I like the blade, but its like it doesn't fit the handle

I agree chompy. I cant really figure out how to fix that though.. To me it looks like the hilt is raised up from the blade, but if I highlighted the base of the blade to try and fix it then it would look to much like a gradient =\.

hmm, the darkness on the red of the blade (the sharpy tags) is going longer out on the right on the blade, so it looks like it is dragged to the right, and the handle need more colors (maybe 1 or 2) to make it look more... not so flat
