This also applies in the real world especially in jobs. If you prove you are good enough for a raise by working hard to make sure you do a good quality job, you're more than likely going to get it because you are a valuable asset to the company. In the terms of Graal, obviously, if you present quality work that you've put pretty much your all into you will be rewarded for your efforts because your talents are invaluable to the community and to the game. Likewise, if you do a half-assed job or only mediocre work you're not likely to get a raise or reward. Thus giving you feelings of jealousy and resentment.
