A Thiefs Role In A Dungeon

The thief is the weakest class. There are many skilsl you think a thief would have but don't (backstabbing, lockpicking, climbing walls) but there has already been a thread about this. I am here to talk about the role a theif plays in a dugeon. Warriors and barbarians have a simular role (granted by their ability to deal more damage and take more themselves. It is to take out the baddies by use of melee or missile weapons. The role of a alchemist and sorceror are simualr as well, to attack the enemy using magic. A priest is needed to heal the party. What about
the thief though? Right now they serve no use to a party. They need a role to play as well. Such as certain doors that can only be opened by theifs. Or have the thief have the ability to spend soem time standing still to open a door that usually requires a small key. Or have the treaure in a chest only openable by thiefs.
