Noobie needs a few tips please

Hi Everyone

I just started and so far have made a big mess out of things, I lost my wand and my black hat and some gold I found in the mine she is loosing her teeth and has warts..and bad gas

I spent two hours in the mine trying to get some iron to make a pickaxe..What do you use in the mine I tried the shovel and it did not work?
