Advice

Does anybody have some sort of advice on graphicing. Mostly what I'm asking for is better tips on making the basic outlines of the graphics. I think my shading have got okay, but everytime I draw something, I don't like it. If you have advice, that would be great.

Hmmm, try to sketch it first.

Well it really depends what type of graphics youre doing. I find that when doing outlines for a human or humanoid characters, I start from the feet and work my way up from there. It's sounds silly, but it really helps me sometimes. Other advice I can give you is to take your time and perfect your outline, pixel by pixel, before you even begin coloring.

Use difrent outline colors, for example, if you veiw the head in my other thread (staying a-"head") the hair that overlaps the headband was outlined with blue, to keep the details from each other. Take your time, the more time you spent on the outline and coloring the better image you'll get. (in most chases, if you want to make a cartoonish outline it will often be better with a single draw from the pencil.)

Yeah, I have my coloring part okay right now, Gate will help me finish on that, it's just the basic object, of the look I can't do. He doesn't have anything that would really help me draw better, it's hard for me, and I want to learn how to do this.

If you are planning to make humanoids or even semi-humans (orcs, whatever that has some similarity to a human body structure) Study human anatomy!!

It helps <--------- this ---------> much. Also, if you have a good sense of the human anatomy you can create animations, poses, and perspectives from a different angle a whole lot better. Drawing, anime, 3d models, whatever books and guides I read I always see the author recommending this.

GOod LuCk!~~

I've never heard of that, then again, I've only read one book about anime, and two webguides to pixel art ;O

It's not the outline, it's the object's look. Like say I wanted to make a tree, it doesn't look like a tree. =/

Well, to make a tree first off you need to know how a tree looks (I mean of course you do, but it's a bit hard to just draw right from your mind). My suggestion would be to keep an image of say, a tree, on the side in your image editor and look at it. Study the lines, shading etc. You don't have to copy it, since that's just copying, but look and study.

It's like the principle of sketching flowers, or painting fruits. It's not exciting, but it teaches you. Art is a major trial-and-error process, and it takes time to get good. Hard to master, but possible for more or less everyone.

GoOod Luck again d--(^.^)--b

*skips everything*

Learn to sketch > learn to outline > learn to color > learn to shade

experiment, no one's going to laugh, and if they do... they likely don't matter

I'd like to see something YOU have sketched using that methodology. I have never once seen anybody get the proportions correct of a completed human body by starting on a limb.

Its even taught in art classes to start at the head.

I start with head most of the time. Also, I don't really think there's tutorials for sketching. I mean, it's just really practice drawing. Trying styles out.. I guess.

Zen's right, people tend to start with the head. But if a technique works for you, go with it.

Nope! Never needed one.

I've done pencil sketch work since as long as I can remember.

In 5th grade I remember there was some jewish kid that used to buy my pictures, lol.
