The mother of all thief ideas

here are some ideas for the thief class me and eric went over.

To steal somthing from a player, their back mus be facing you. if you to sucessfully steal somthing you hold the item above your head, stealing automatically turns peaceful off (even though i think peaceful should be gone)and if you are hit while you are still holding the item, you drop it.once you put it in your sack, the item is yours to keep, (players will need to run away from where people are to get by theirselves because everyone will be wanting that thief's item.)

Theives can also steal from stores, but the more expensive the item is, the more people will want to hit you and steal it, so you have to be fast to get away from everyone there too. Also, if you return to the same store on the same day (once day|night is made, the shopkeep will recognise you, and then a sign will be posted on the front door with your face on it, and wanted. if anyone kills you, they get a thank you present from the store owner. Theives have to hold the item above their head for 10 seconds before they can put it away.

stealing then will be totally by chance...
40% of the time you will get coins
30% of the time you will get jewels
20% of the time you will get kingdom keys (like one time use keys that kingdoms use to open different doors, they are assigned to different people in the kingdom, this way people can sneak into kingdom only places, the key stays in the door after use, and the origional owner must find it to get it back (there is only one door it works for, so it wont be hard) if a key is found on a player in a castle during a guard check he is thrown in a kingdom dungeon or somthing..sorta like drug possesion =P)
10% of the time you will get scrolls
10% of the time you will get weapons

also later jewels can include rings and amulets, if a player is missing one of the objects, the chance stays the same for the others. if thieves are noticed while stealing the player can simply turn around and slash them while they are grabbing him from behind *just like pressing A on someone* and then the thief will be hurt badly and forced to run away, theives cannot wear armor or hold weapons or shields while stealing.

I think the level of the Thief and the level of the victim have to be considered... or we will have a bunch of low level thieves running around with uber stuff and a bunch of high levels screwed over... *looks at his Ring of Thieves and feel like eyes are watching him*

the night vision, agility, and quiet step should greatly improve your chance ratio.

Thieves should definitely have to touch the player to steal, I don't want a thief to be standing 10 feet away and grab my cauldron or anything.......

*if this is the way stealing was already designed, forgive me 'cause I don't know anything about it*

I think the thief should have to grab the player for a certain amount of time in order to steal something. Also, the items they steal should depend on how well they steal, which could be based off of their steal/attempted steal ratio. (how many times they have tried to steal and how many times they succeeded)

Plus there would need to be protection from thieves, as I would probably quit playing if some guy comes up and steals my one of a kind war axe.

I would imagine levels could play a factor here... Like if the amount of time it takes to steal something is based on the level the thief is at compared to the person he is stealing from's level.

So if the thief is level 3 and he tries to steal from a level 9 guy, it would take a considerably long amount of time, holding on to that level 9 player, before the thief could manage to take anything. Then the "success" could be determined by if they retrieved the item they have stolen.

I would hate for some guy to just come up, touch my back, and take some valuable item. I mean sure you could hit him and make him drop it, but whats stopping him or someone else from picking it up before you can get to it? I mean if two guys work together to steal stuff, one guy could just wait until the other guy gets hit and then run up and get the item.

You seem to like lv comparison konidias... is this because your lv9? (or 10 now...) Anyway, its still a good idea on the whole, you don't see many thiefs around now.

But: Newbie mines for six hours to earn fifty platinum. Newbie is happy. Level ten thief nudges him and grabs the money, laughs in the newbie's face. Newbie is no longer happy.

Stealing is always difficult in these games.

You can't be attacked while in peacful mode so you shouldn't be able to be robbed.

Why? Because some people don't enjoy being owned by level 10's they are completely defenseless against and losing level 3, as well as possibly some of their magic EXP, which is hard as CRAP to level up in is why it's up. Removing it would just make more people quit, and people quitting = BAD business.

Last I heard, when we log off our character stays active on the server and can be killed by baddies and the like...

I like this but when you put in stealing it's going to be a problem. If someone is logged off, they should be 100% protected against thieves. No one should be able to steal from an inactive (logging-off) character.

Sleeping characters should have to log off at inns, or houses, in beds, so an innactive character could just be called "sleeping"
inns would cost 10 plat each logon/logoff, kingdoms provide sleeping places for members, hobos can sleep in small caves, where they are hidden.

But some people may have things to do between plays, or not play graal for 6 hours a time, people may need to urgently log off, and they will have to go to the inn, and pay 10 plat, this will quickly reduce the earnings of the casual players who log on, play an hour and go.

No, not really, I said something to the extent of you should need to log off/sleep in taverns and inns or your house to save properly. Or perhaps buy a sleeping bag that has a 25% chance of being wrecked every time you log off (so it's not a one buy thing) when you are far from town.

I was told it's too mcuh like diablo.

What if everyone just picks a town to belong to..and they can sleep there for free..sleeping bags/tents are a one time buy, no limit use thing that simply keeps you where you log off, if you dont you log on in bed at that town...or somthing.

But than the creation of sleeping bags isn't much of a trade, since once all people have one, nobody neds tem anymore, liek diamond axes on 2k1, first they sold for 750-1k a month later the most was 300. WHat about.

Inns and Personal houses-You can log off properly at any player hosue (not neccassarily yours) or inn's which costs only a few platinum. Logging of here is like logging off anywhere is now, you simply awaken and come back on.

Sleeping Bags-Cheap Sleeping bags can be bought, you log off anywhere with one and there are no problems. When you log on there is a 10% chance that it says "The morning dew wrecked your sleeping bag" and you have to buy a new one.

Logging off Anywhere-There is a small chance you lose a random amount of money and a small chance you loose a random amount of food points.

I guess you solved the problem of cash disapeearing for casual log-offers, however, 10% chance 5 times is less than 50...
/edit I confuse myself sometimes...
