Layer's and You!

Thanks to Fry and his contributions to Gonstruct, layers are now possible to 'play' with. However... they're not much use if you don't have the right tileset, so I'm willing to share the one I created a while ago so you can all play with Gonstruct. Now, I'm going to warn you, don't expect to use this tileset and upload it and have everything work. Graal's client does not currently support alpha blending in tilesets... this is a method I use heavily in my layer tileset for things like shadows, and dynamic terrains. The solution? Either way it out for v6... or wait it out for me to create a layer tileset that doesn't use alpha blending. OR, to the extreme side, you can place all shadow tiles on a single layer and level.tilelayers[x].alpha = .32 to give them opacity via gscript... I don't advise that, though. However, if such a tileset is made, it will not be very flexible. The only benefit would be objects like tree tops being transparent... the bottom of the tree would still have green shadows, therefor still only really be visually pleasing on grass.

I may write up a tutorial on using Gonstruct and how to create layers... as while the concept is easy to grasp, when you start working with 4 layers and you have objects here and there, things can get really complicated really fast. Perhaps include a list of what is possible and what isn't, and exactly how layers work on Graal itself... side-effects and so on. Anyways, I should mention Graal hardly supports layers right now, so really all it's good for is playing around with.

Anyways, here's the tileset. There are oversights with it. A few tile errors here and there, tiles I deleted that I shouldn't have... they're few and far between, however. I may eventually add more to it, as well, like doing the same for interior tiles like the shelves and windows.

I remember trying this with Tig's level editor, it was quite cool.

Really? Tig said it didn't work... then again Skyld confirmed it to work with the beta Mac.

Yeah, it ended up working but it was still kind of buggy, sometimes things weren't displaying transparency properly, etc.

On the Mac? Skyld showed me a screenshot and it looked perfect. However, my level loads the topmost layer and all transparency is black(so it's mainly a black screen with the top layer objects showing).

Yeah, it worked on the 32-bit version (slightly older than the one involved with the Mac beta testing), but not on the newest 64-bit one. We reported all the bugs on that one, though.

Galdor reminded me of this; layers would mean that we could apply filters right? Such as this.
