Why does GS2 not function with the current offline editor?

I left a year ago expecting such features when I came back.

It's the same as it was when I left. Whatever happened to GS2 support for the offline level editor? It's goddamn impossible to practice GS2 in an environment where you're unable to compile a script to test it's effect and see the results

Maybe you crazy people are used to learning like that. I'm standing resolute by my belief that half of you are robots.

Enlighten me - why is this so?

You need to talk your way into a server or pay to get one yourself to learn anything. This is something you should just accept.

I agree, we shouldn't, there's no changing that fact. However, it doesn't look like it's going to change any time soon.

Any positive, well accepted change is considered a bad thing for CJ.

You don't seem to realize that by adding support for GS2 into the editor, they would have to implement parts of their actual servers. By doing so, it can easily be stolen, and used by people with ill feelings towards CJ.

I completely understand why they're not doing it. Do I like it? No, not really.

OR those ill-feeling people could just use any of a dozen of free scripting languages instead, that are actually well-tested, documented and supported on a larger scale. What do they have to gain by actually using GS2?

Why? They don't need to add serverside support, it would be like the current editor but in GS2 instead of GS1.

Same thing they have to gain by using old versions of Graal servers for their own project? I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about without me having to mention it's name.

As far as I understand it, the thing that turns plain-text GS2 into executable byte code is currently only part of the server.

Would it require a lot of work to change the GS1 stuff to GS2 on the editor if you were in Stefan's position?

If we are thinking of the same guys, they cannot use the new client anyway because they cannot figure out the encryption.

Cyberjoueurs. Joueurs is pretty much French for "gamers" or something, it is just the label that Stefan/Unixmad started the whole thing under.

This is pretty much impossible to say without being familiar with the codebase Stefan is working with. Considering all the changes the game has gone through since the last editor release, it might very well require a lot of plumbing and rewiring and annoying stuff, and since Stefan wants to move to online tools (where everything is scripted and the architecture is already in place as far as I can tell), I doubt he is going to go through that trouble. (Prove me wrong!)

Don't see why anyone would want to use old Graal servers when you could just make a new and better client and server with more features using existing libraries.

Turning libraries into a game engine is still a fair bit of work. Graal comes with all kinds of premade ideas so you can get to making actual content sooner.

Also decent network code is not exactly easy to write in any case.

This is true, but in the time since the last client update for Graal I'm sure a few decent programmers could have churned out something equal or superior in features as far as programming goes, not including 3D.

Yes but if you are intelligent enough to be a decent programmer why are you hanging out with the antigraal crowd anyway?

If I was Anti-Graal I don't think I would be paying for this game. Unless I was rich and was trying to make it appear that I wasn't Anti-Graal when I actually was.

OH WAIT

It's quite simple, humans are lazy. Why make your own time demanding work when you can use someone else's that's already working well enough?

I think the "Anti-Graal" group they're talking about likes Graal, just not Unixmad.

The same reason the level editor itself hasn't had an update in 5+ years. The same reason RC hasn't had an update since 2006. The same reason hardly any of our suggestions are taken into consideration.
