What will Bomy Island will be like?

Hi there. Forgive me for asking as I see you like your forum to be somewhat empty, but I remember playing Graal2001... I actually originally upgraded to play Graal2001 back in 2001. It went through a lot of phases and of course evolutions as new technology and areas were introduced with new developers.

My real question for you is, what, if anything, from the original Graal2001 will be left intact? And what new developments, or upgrades, have been introduced if it is safe to ask this early?

It looks quite similar. Unfortunately nobody will ever see it because by the time they're finished so will Graal Online.

Various threads around explaining. This thread should answer the most of your questions. If you've got any more questions however, feel free to ask.

Aye you're probably right, especially with the size of the overworld and the complete lack of talented LAT around who can work in a similar style. We're getting closer than most revivials do though.

People need to quit complaining about how long Bomy Island is taking. It is taking time for a reason. Rufus and everyone are doing the best they can. Complaining does nothing but make it harder on him and the other Devs. Idiots.

In this case we have a legitimate reason to complain. How long has this team been working on Bomy Moon? 2 years?

I might have been exaggerating when I said two years but it has certainly been more than one. I haven't touched Graal since around Christmas and you guys were working on it for awhile even then.

Koni was heading the BI revival for a long time... then he just disappeared because of school and such and it BI just kind of went dormant. Only recently has anyone decided to take his work and do something with it.

So mainly in the last 6months to a year since Koni disappearance there has been no development at all. Or at least no development that has really taken it to the next step/worth mentioning.

Koni was my last hope on graal development.

Far from it. It was slightly obvious after Oasis that being sceptical about Koni's ability to create and make public a Graal project was a far position to take.

Konidias did a lot of work for Graal2001, and Graal in general. It's pretty stupid to say this with him leaving Bomy Island nowhere near finished, but I don't think it's exactly fair to judge his ability to develop entirely on a few failed projects. I think we've all failed in a few projects, it's just Konidias' hurt more because they seemed to have the potential for being great ones, and they generally had a huge hype. I still believe that Konidias is a good developer, but sometimes the motivation is just killed and I think everyone can understand that.

Oh, yes, the skills he has are great, and he is a good developer. But after Oasis I gave up hoping for anything. He unfortunately came across as being a little exclusive, perhaps because he knew few people could meet his standards - but then that limits the likelihood of success unfortunately.

Nice levels above btw :P

koni had really high standards. i worked for him doing levels for BI for a few months and the work we gave me and wanted to get done was too much. It was like we wanted me to be full time level maker for Graal and have no real life lol. but yeah i hope BI can make it and if you guys need help with levels let me know maybe i can submit an app again?....this is my first post in like a year lol

I'm sorry, I didn't intend for this thread to get out of hand or anything... and I didn't think to search from months ago threads. I was hoping for some modern information. I wasn't here in the time that konidias took the helm... I wouldn't think people would put him in charge of something so important after the whole Oasis thing...

From the sound of it, the same kind of thing happened.. disappearance and then stopped. It's great to hear you guys are working on it... but how exactly are you changing the levels? Did you scrap the old overworld to completely start on a new one or what?

We're definately not scrapping the old overworld, lol. I have a levels pack from mid 2001 provided by Stefan and that's what is being worked on. Obviously the levels are evolving to keep up with the times but in a simple and clean style, not these chaotic or random fillers that you might find on other worlds. The majority of the levels are being freshened up, but retaining the original layout and shape, so there's no drastic changes really.

An ex-member of staff wanted to use the VS:Conflict overworld while it was in limbo between Konidias disappearing and staff joining, but if the overworld was changed it to that extent, it wouldn't be a Graal2001 revivial

Oh yes, it was once the definition of glory. If you looked up glory in the dictionary, it automatically connected your graal client to Graal2001. I'm sure it will be stellar when they finally release the new version.

I was reading this post and I was thinking, "Why does this annoy me?"
Reason was the word "release" when was the last time I saw something released on graal that was of any importance to the player.

Yeah that's like a day's work tops, if you have to do the entire overworld..... if it is just little sections, that's a small job. What he said about content first, levels second... good idea!

It depends what you want, though. If you just fixed the tile errors, they'd still be pretty boring/ugly levels. The cliffs probably need a total overhaul (but that of course depends on priorities, I guess no one would have sleepless nights over it having boring cliffs upon release, if everything else was adequately in order!)

Okay, figured I should answer some questions.

While we know the overworld is not a priority task, it still needs to be done, and much like Zelda, most levels need a purpose. Modifications of the overworld are a bit more tricky than you'd imagine as the majority of the levels are needless fillers, and there's 600+ of them; things need to change in that respect. I personally feel as though the levels are just as important as everything else, because they are a large part of the gameplay. The Underground Lake will still be there, but except for the water-entrance at Bomboria, the entrances to the lake are being moved around, and some new ones added. I'm not sure about revisions for the lake, as that's somewhere I've been avoiding as I personally hated it, and Bird Bird's weird monsters down there, but it'll come.

I don't know when the server will be done, but it won't be released until it is. I guess that's all I can say about that really, but I wouldn't imagine anyone else attempting to release an unfinished server either
