Think it's possible?

Just a hypothetical question... do you think it's possible for a server to be made in the genre of horror? There are very few 2D horror games that do it good, so think it would really be possible to make a server with some scare factor? If so, which way do you think it'd be best?

I'm thinking cliché city full of zombies, not really scary outside, but RE type when you go indoors, with 'pop-out' scare scenarios, but more of a psychological scare factor that SH games do so well.

Eh, picture doesn't really mean anything, but I sketched it as I was posting this so I guess it's appropriate.

hmm... classic horror, new age horror (gore), or sci fi horror. depends on how it's put together. A more zombie, kill all, resident evil/dead rising would be awsome though, nice idea

you should start with a shovel as your weapon if a Zombie server is ever made

Of course its possible. Think Era (ugh...) but beaten down and damaged with Zombie NPCs running the streets and leaping out at you from behind dumpsters. There could be like underground groups that try and eliminate the zombies and makeshift camps throughout the city.

I would play it ^_^

I think it could definately work, it's a great setting for a server and allows tons of quests and storylines to be developed from it.

The big thing about zombie games for me is the graphics and animations usually are quite corny/bad when done in 2d.

Kinetaro kinda already added something like this a while back. It's used for an event, but it's all there.

Oh and I remember years ago when server hosting just started that there was a server that was going to be purely horror/survival based. I think it was called Tribulation. It was all very hush-hush but it seemed promising.

Well, the question wasn't really if a Zombie infested server could be done, but if people think it's possible to create a server that would actually scare people.

Hmm..hard to scare, maybe shock? With a good choice of music/sounds and the right setting and atmosphere built up maybe. There is no way to ensure that people would have sound on while playing however so the effect would be lost. o-O

Yea i would love to see a server like that. Something like Land of the Dead would be cool. You know the zombies have infested the the world and there are bases all over the map that are "safe zones" i would give all my time for this server if it was made

I must say, I think around 98.436% of people who play graal have their speakers on pretty much all the time. Sound is not an issue...except making it :P

I tried to make a Doom 3 ripoff on Aeon once. But lack of staff and me quitting kinda killed it. I'd love to see it done, though.

<3 exactly. I mean come on half the things on Graal are far worse than just some pixel blood lol.

American society considers things like sex worse than blood and gore, etc. And any person who has enough knowledge about a computer to play Graal has most likely visited a website sexual in nature or been exposed to it at one time. I don't like how adults delude themselves into thinking children are so innocent in this day and age.

Carmageddon = was a banned game. Unbanned when it changed its blood colour as it was said to 'decrease realism'.

I'm not going to argue much on this, but my opinion is: Non-Red blood reduces realism, there is no real reason or issue with non-red blood. But whatever, is CJs are ok with red, paint the town red.

I don't care, the ESRB is made up of a bunch of conservative idiots who don't really know how the mind of the younger generator works in this day and age. The re-rating of GTASA and Oblivion are testament to that. Its just proof of their stupidity that they actually think the color of blood makes a difference to anyone playing the game.

I don't really understand how anyone can think the color will make a difference, if someone holds a neon-pink gun to your head that you know is a wanted criminal are you going to be any less afraid than if the gun was silver or black?

I would be more afraid because I would think they must be crazy. Crazy people with guns are never a good thing.

Yea. Hachi's event Outbreak is essentially a zombie event. But Kinetaro added those crazy particle effects and random npcs spawning into zombies and chasing you across the server.

:P I was thinking more of Grudge, as my little sister absolutely hates the girl thing from it, so I thought I'd sketch it up. Maybe someone will do something with the idea, and if I ever get any designs or graphics done I'll throw them that way.

I'm probably going to post any concept art I come up with here, in case anyone does anything related to this.

This dude comes to about the knees of the player(really short), and has a kitchen knife merged with his arm that he drags it around and swings at the player.

Well that(and whatever comes most likely) is just sketchy concept art. It'd have to be turned into sprites before it can actually be used in the game.

On the whole blood thing, I am pretty sure that if you changed the colour, to say green, they'd be fine with it. I think it's pretty much the whole red issue, as then people would know its supposed to be blood, but wont think its blood.

Ya, I like the crazy mind-boggling weird monsters from Silent Hill a lot more than the boring zombies from Resident Evil.

And, drunk zombie guy with a gun.
EDIT: added a girl with a scissor stabbed in her head. Arms are attached to her legs, so she attacks via small kicks.

I still think a dead rising type of playerworld would be fun, just running around killing Zombies, saving helpless civilians, going on the odd quest, battling wackos, and confronting the military would ammount to a pretty fun server, but that is more action/suspense while your going with horror. I just prefer Zombies where they're more "normal looking". other wise It might be a pretty fun server.

Actually I doubt it'd be able to get far as last I remember they're pretty strict about blood and stuff on servers. So ya... this wouldn't be any fun without blood in it.

Im pretty sure Stefan would be able to come up with some agreements with you as far as blood, maybe if some type of Warning was posted before logging on to the server.. Eg: "Warning, This server is rated GM (Graal Mature) for viewers 15+. Contains blood, gore, and explicit pixeled nudity."

But yeah.. I've always wanted to make a server like this, just didnt have enough help to do so. I would really like to help if you actually decide to go through with it.

Maybe you could take some inspiration from a free adventure game called "5 Days a Stranger" and one of it's sequels, "Trilby's Notes". Those games do have some originally scary moments and atmospheres.
