Message Clearing

It would be handy if we had an option to have pms/mass msgs/guild msgs to be cleared after a certain number of seconds.

No. Important information could be missed.

If you don't like them blinking, relog or click them off.

I think it's a good idea. Note how he said OPTION, meaning you could have it on or off, obviously.

I get sick of constantly having to read staff mass messages when I don't want to. Leaving them at the bottom is annoying.

Yeah, that's all well and good, unless it's your mass messages/PMs which are the important ones.

That's life. I gave two easy solutions to deal with them; people should not have an excuse to be poor staff.

Hey Tseng, I got an idea for you, how about stop taking peoples ideas, and bascially throwing them back in their faces. It is getting really annoying. I think this is a cool idea, i'd rather my pms be cleared, rather then reconnect. What if I am doing something importiant and can't reconnect, but I can't take 10 minutes to close the pms? Huh? Exactly.

Some players will mass message in jail or something and forget massmessages/pms are ignored unless sent to an RC. It's nice if they are all cleared without having to reconnect, or open 150 pms, than close them again. (I think that the PM response notification telling you that you cannot send pms to players should be removed, and just do this instead:

Re-do the playerlist and set it up like so:

Staff - Staff with tags on appear here. (On client)
------
Admins - Staff RC accounts online appear here (Offline Admins are grayed) Also, any Global Admins (on or off RC) are shown here.
------
Guild - Guild Members appear here.
------
Buddies - Buddy accounts added here. (Offline players are grayed)
------
Players - Any online players are displayed here.
------

*Ignored players are not shown, but can be edited in another window.

Now, when your in jail, any accounts listed in the player/guild/buddies section are grayed so you cannot pm them.
There should also be a Mass Message buttion so that it sends a MassMessage to all players/staff online (not-grayed).

If you can understand all this you will get my point that this idea is a good one, but it can be solved with a new message/playerlist system.

Look at it from the standpoint of someone sending a message, rather than someone receiving it.

Think about it.

Excal, it doesn't take 10 minutes to close a couple of staff messages. Try 10 seconds. You're pretty lazy if that complicates life for you.

Staff messages? No, player pms build up. Try playing on UN for more than 10 minutes. Then you will understand what I mean. There are many different reasons that other people have for why this is a good idea, but they are there reasons and I don't know them.

They don't see the light, I'd just give up, it's the best option.

The smartest response would have been to suggest an addendum: "Staff messages do not get cleared."

I still don't like it, though. It's a big step towards ignoring players.

Scott your last post was also concidered spam. I realize there is a ignore mass message option. Yeah, great, you don't recieve any mass messages from players. But That is not the point he is getting across. He wants player messages to be able to be cleared. The way he wants it is after a certian amount of time, but mabey there could just be one buttion to clear all pms, instead of it being a timed thing.

But still, my little improvment could be added, and this wouldn't be really needed. Well, I never recieved any critisism on it, what do you guys think?

He wants player messages to be able to be cleared.
Obviously he's not reading them, so why should he even bother not doing this...

I told you that there is a differance:
a) being too busy to answer them (message clearing)
b) not wanting to reply pms (ignore mass messages)

But, now that I really think of it, it's not really going to be that useful, but mabey my playerlist system would be?

Ok so let me get this in line...
You want the receive mass messages and such, but just don't want to read them so you want them clear after a while.

Why not just include a 'clear all mass messages' button?

Anyways, I believe what he wants is the abilty to GET masses and such, but if too many people just message "'Selling..', 'join my guild...', 'I pwned...', etc." he can just *ZAP*, rather than just open/close them all... to ignore them, would shut off the normal conversation also, not just the crap that nobody wants to hear...

I think it's one of those features, that isnt needed, but should be there anyway, for convenience.

*edit*
Actually, he meant the "option" (like ignore), to remove the PM ones he didnt read after a few moments, the only way this could be a problem with missing important information would be if he went AFK.

Just add them both, you know you want to

He's not talking about ignoring ALL masses, he's talking about certain masses that he leaves unread, to dissappear after a time limit, you can always check their history after..., not blocking every single mass... just read above, goodness people...

It's obvious to hit Ignore mass messages, if you dont want to read them, but he most likely wants to read them, some he might just leave alone, like if people are mass arguing, they build up... and hitting ignore mass messages wouldnt just clear the messages from your screen... It might stop new ones(I think you have to reopen graal for the options to work the new way you set though, not sure)... but wouldnt clear the current 20 masses from angry people at eachother that you have on your screen... Like I said, convenience, not needed, just... there... for special occasions, lol.

*edit* Woah, I can ramble on cant I?

A nice feature for the player list, would be making the client save any PMS not read when logged off, and when you logged back on, it would say

Quote:
"You had 12 private message(s) unread when you logged off. Would you like to read them now?"
That would be good.

I don't really agree with this option, but if a staff message was that important, there is always admin message...
