Angry 3.1 for linux

I know stefan is on vocation but something needs to be done. V3 runs horrible on linux and fine on windows. On windows it runs faster than 2.2 for me. On linux its that laggy that its unplayable.
Does anyone have a hint how i can speed it up alot so that i dont need to go on windows for playing graal.

Learn how to configure X and enable openGL...The Linux version is fine...just needs refinement. You aren't able to play Kingdoms with it it seems though.

My OpenGL installation sucks, and with glxgears I get around 200 fps, but I blame it all on my video chipset ;

Or you don't have opengl and it is running on software emulation mode, which of course will be slow. What video card do you have? If you have a nvidia download and install the drivers from the site

I get anywhere from 1900 to 3400 fps in gears...you must have something wrong with your chipset like you said. Those scores are about what you would get with no opengl...

Thx it works great with the driver.
Someone should write a tutor through.
Hmm 3.1 needs a buddy list improvement, which adds group and allows you to set the transparence of the thingie.
Well would be great =D.

write a tutorial? someone using linux should be advanced enough with computers to know that the problem is probably caused by outdated drivers...and I think stefan will work on the buddy list improvements eventually

Ok ill write a tutor (redhat only i dunno if it works with more os.)
1) dload and install
-go on nvidia and dload the linux ia 32 driver if you have a nvidia card.
-press ctrl alt and f1
-log in with your root there
-browse to your driver file and open it
-type init 5 to come back to normal redhat.
you should have a new kernel (do redhat update for it).
2) configure x
-go to /etc/X11/XF86Config
-replace Driver "nv" or Driver "vesa" with Driver "nvidia"
-make sure that Load "glx" is written down in the module section
-delete Load "dri" and Load "GLcore"
-save it and restart your linux or x(i would do it iam not sure if necasarry)

now try graal it will work very well

can someone please ad stuff for other cards do?
not everyone has a nvidia card (if your german and want one i have a spare geforce 2 mx 440 =P you only need to pay the packet)

please stick this post =D

You know, the driver does happen to come with a help file for how to install, there is no need for a sticky

you don't have to read all of it, at least 95% of it is just extra configuring for things the average user wouldn't need

(sec-02) INSTALLING THE NVIDIA DRIVER
__________________________________________________ ________________________

BEFORE YOU BEGIN DRIVER INSTALLATION

Before beginning the driver installation, you should exit the X server.
In addition you should set your default run level so you will boot to a
vga console and not boot directly into X (please consult the documentation
that came with your Linux distribution if you are unsure how to do this;
this is normally done by modifying your /etc/inittab file). This will
make it easier to recover if there is a problem during the installation.
After installing the driver you must edit your XF86Config file before
the newly installed driver will be used. See the section below entitled
EDITING YOUR XF86CONFIG FILE.

INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW NVIDIA DRIVER INSTALLER

After you have downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg1.run,
begin installation by exiting X, cd'ing into the directory containing
the downloaded file, and run:

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg1.run

The .run file is a self-extracting archive. When the .run file is
executed, it extracts the contents of the archive, and runs the contained
`nvidia-installer` utility, which will walk you through installation of
the NVIDIA driver.

I found that in the second section, whyd you bother reading a few pages
