The NPC-Server is here to help

Why does the NPC-Server show up in the staff list? It serves virtually no purpose in the list on most servers, and on others, the systems could be rescripted to not use PMs to the NPC-Server.

It also seems quite confusing. Log on a server for the first time, "Hey, Mr. Era NPCs, how do I get a gun?" ... no response

I realize you can remove "Server" from the staff guilds, but then he's floating around in the playerlist like another player. I think it would be best if there was a server option to remove him from the player list.

A lot of servers use the NPC-Server for event systems, jailing systems (GP's PM the npc-server jail <account> so they don't need to have RC), and other uses.

The NPC-Server is also good for making announcements, etc.

I completely agree with you, but can't be bothered to say why right now. I'm just sick of this needless, un-newbie friendly jargon being placed all over Graal and the NPC Server is contributing to that. Players don't need to know what an NPC Server is, nor do they need to see it.

*Cough* Another "We should add ____" suggestion ahead *Cough*

Maybe an option that, by default is off, toggles the display of the NPC-Server on the playerlist while it's not actively handing out information candy. I did a mock-up playerlist idea a while back while thinking about how unorganised the playerlist options are, and added the option above to show your what I mean:

The options menu for the players should be simple to understand and as jargon free as possible. Adding an option like the one you are suggesting is just confusing. Players won't know what an NPC-Server is and if it is hidden by default then they won't really ever need to see either.

It's possible to put all of this in commands or a GUI tool. Again, it would be best if it was a server choice (either opt-in or automatically add "shownpcserver=true" or so to all current servers).

I disagree completely, and I think a lot of people would. 99[percent] of people don't read NPC-Server login PMs, myself included. Some people even put the npc-server on their ignore list.

*nods*

I also agree with the idea, would be very nifty.
