My Tileset

I've been working on this tileset for a little while now, I wanted to see if people like my work so far. I think this might take two posts though, unless I uploaded the tileset itself, which I'm not going to do.

Well it's ok i guess, but when u look at the stonepath it looks like the grass and the rest is one floor above it, or something like that.

A lot of it just seems like recolourations, although nicely done ones. The stone path looks ok, its sort of like a hybrid of two different tiles :O
I do like the wooden panels in pictures 4 and 5 though!

I think its just another basic tileset, well done but nothing extroadinary.

Its nice to change things every once in a while to "shake it up a bit"

The underworld was going to have purple grass and orange trees... stuff like that ;P.

Also, yea, it's supposed to be classic-esque. I'm using a lot of old tiles, as well as adding a lot of new tiles. I think I included a lot of my newer tiles in those pictures, they're combined with older tiles, though. Most of the inside stuff I'm doing is going to be more original, because I absolutely hate the inside stuff from pics1.png. Especially because it goes against the angle of sight that is universal throughout most of the outside levels. I've just begun to make the inside stuff. I still need to make beds and chairs, as well as some gfx for wall and table decoration such as torches, plaques, books, etc. I've got a lot of that stuff done this week. Other than that I've been very slow at making it, because I'm the only one making it and I have a very busy life (but not recently ). The problem I'll run into after I'm done with the tileset, and a bunch of NPCs... is... that I really suck at tiling . I don't even have a server or anything, but I'm still going to work on it!

I think I only like the table, and those wall tiles that get lighter as it gets higher up.

Then you should know that the table just uses the bookshelf tiles

Gradients=Nonono.
Just because it's easy doesn't mean it's good.
Just because it was overused for a long period of time, doesn't mean its good.
Your walls will be much more interesting if you throw in some variations, actual detail, instead of just slapping on a gradient.

Unless your going for the smooth, dull look.

Edit: So I don't seem like I'm attacking you in your own thread, I might add that I found the flowers to be oddly intriguing, so simple yet I liked them a great deal.
And as for your non-gradiented parts of the tileset, lookin' pretty good.
Looking forward to seeing some new tiles.

dont listen to that thing about gradients. I use them all the time and they come out fine. Dont be afraid to use lots of colors in your work; go for what looks the best

Well, if you want to know what i've done in there that's original (or at least I what I made without a real reference to anything else).
  1. The log cabin styled house (outside wall anyways)
  2. The picnic table/roof double, which is in at least one pic.
  3. The gravestones... muahahhaa... if I could only use them the right way.
  4. the white walls (I didn't knowingly use a gradient... these are by the pixel by pixel tool)
  5. the upper edges of the wall (save the ones for the east and west walls... It's based on the pics1 gravestone, basically.)
  6. the bookshelf and table
  7. the board floor tile, the brick floor tile, the carpet floor tile.
I think I redid the swamp tile as well.... but I can't be sure. I wish the alt tileset shared the same features as the pics1 tileset (bushes, stones, signs, dancing flowers).
A lot of it is also innovations and combinations of older tiles,too... especially with the f'ing stone road thing.... that takes up quite a bit of tileset space, but is worth it.

Well I forgot about the tombstones. My bad. That comment was too generalized. Those were the only things that looked original, and that looked good. I dislike how the tombstones are done because they look really flat. I liked the unique table but also the same tiles or similar ones were used for a roof in the same screenshot.

yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa... I make innovative and multiple applications for a lot of my tiles!!! Right now, though, I'm off focused from the tileset, and I'm going to make my boat NPC
