Sanstrata thread! =o

Well Its been a while since Ive posted about Sans in the forums or in random threads so here it is the offical Sanstrata thread complete with one screenshot.

btw to actually use this in game I will need Stefan to allow me to upload files larger then 64k I already have all the tiles for this and I'm making more by the weeks and days. Im pretty sure you can guess that since pics1 is over 64k that this just aint gonna get under 64k

Bodies are bloody cool. You need to make the bridge not so perfect...cause it's a wooden bridge X-x. I dont care for that bright spec of color around the grass edges by the dirt, ruins it if you ask me. Overall, cant wait for San to come out.

With the exception of the dirt/grass tiles with the weird transition that were already mentioned, that is very impressive, donald.

Very nice. It would be cool if you improved the shading on the rocks a little (currently looks a little flat - nothing bad exactly, but it could be improved), and maybe made that clump of flowers less square.

Thank you =D. Alaird did the dirt transition so umm we might do a quick fix for it. Btw if you need any graphic made let me know cause I still feel a little guilty about the whole evil candy thing.

Yeah, I really do suggest making a better transition, it just isn't very easy on the eyes. And okay, I'll keep that in mind

btw if you look real closely at the dirt you can see a tiger face. Funny how it just came out that way huh?

It's not Sanstrata, Come up with a new name your not bringing back the server 'Sanstrata' your making your own server and slapping Sanstrata on it.

I couldn't agree more.

The first server I ever played was Sanstrata back in the days of Graal 2.04. In fact, up until it shut down it was the ONLY server I played. I don't even mind you taking the name, but throughout this entire process you've said that you're supporting Sanstrata! Bringing it back to life! The levels we all loved! Sanstrata back again!

But it's not. Since when did Sanstrata have bodies that looked like a cross between Graal2002 people and Megaman? Since when did the world we all knew and loved have pixel-perfect grass or beautiful custom tilesets?

I'm not even going to pretend that this server of yours doesn't look fantastic. In fact, this screenshot is spectacular. You've done an excellent job. But.. it just isn't Sanstrata. Sanstrata died when it shut down all those months ago. Let its memory live on in the minds of those who played it, and do wonderful things with your obvious talent, but please don't pretend that this is going to be some kind of spectacular rebirth. It's a whole new world. Why not have a whole new name as well?

you 'can' get it to work by cutting the tileset into like 8 peices, and then uploading it, and there is some script

other than that, have you forum PMed stefan about it? or you can just PM him on graal if you see him... he was VERY helpfull when i asked him to upload my tileset

I used to play Sans too. However, considering the past manager approved of it, and bringing back old projects normally fail if you take old files and try and improve them. Graal's expectations of playerworlds has changed a lot, and so has the players, so new things wont be too bad, but it may get some people excited for old sans, when they actually get the newer one. But on a plus, people who played sans will look at it, and may like it and stay.

Nice GFX there btw.

I was under the impression that he was going to use the old levels with the new tileset, so it's basically the server with revamped graphics. The graphics do rock and I look forward to checking it out.

Hmm, I think it would be quite cool bringing back Sanastra with it's old levels, a bit varied, but with the new tileset. If it really was that fun back then (was an n-pulser back in the day with geo) it should be just as fun if not more with the new stuff he can do.

I remember him saying they are using the old levels with new tileset and added more towns to it..Even if it's all new, it can still have the same premise/ideas/etc. of the original Sanstrata server, just think of it as a sequel of some sort..

Nice tiles, and body but its just that it seems that the body is a big hudge... Mybe make it a bit smaller?

The body only seems large in height, but that of course is because it's in the middle of walking.

It looks great Don... of course you know I already said it enough...
The grass barely looks like mines anymore, yet refreshingly more natural :P

Make sure you keep me updated.

Thank you for your comments but graphic is not the only things I'm doing. Ok I guess I cannot keep it secret any longer here are my plans!! First I intend to use this tileset with new bodys over the new san levels which were uploaded on sans a while ago along with old sans the one with the s14 levels. Here is the story line sorry if there are spelling mestakes.

You have herd the storys long and short of gorkak and the Arcanians with their orbs of light and darkness.
How The orb of light was brought forth by a flaming commet (Arcanian ship) and brought peace to all the Kingdoms of Sanstrata.
But this peaceful age did not last long how ever Gorkak came with his army of doom and brought forth the ord Sanstrata treasured most.
Just as Gorkak was about to unite the orb of light and darkness into the orb of one a boy came running at him and smashed the orb right
before Gorkak was about to become the ruler of the univerce. Thus turning the orb of light into thousands of peices scattered all over Sanstrata.
Some peices were found by few people thus allowing them to use on their weapons and spell books to make them more powerful. But all the peices
were not found so Gorkak left Sanstrata but he was leaving a large group of Arcanians to take over Sanstrata much later. The leader of this group
his name cannot be said and so most call him the Ubermistro. Gorkak had also left damaged ships after the war and search for the light orb
Gorkak still had the orb of darkness so if there ever were to be harmony in the univerce someone would have to get it from him to unite the orb
of darkness and light. A young clever Sanstratain made a new ship of the damaged ones Gorkak had left and set out to bring the orb of darkness to
Sanstrata. He had gotten the orb of darkness how ever as he was flying back to Sanstrata he crashed on Sanstratas moon thus the orb of darkness
being lost close to sanstrata as he had wished but lost on its moons surfice. It was later found some Sanstratains were held as prisoner and taken to
The planet of The arcanians but there was a muitany on the ship and it crashed on a strange life supporting planet with no inhabintants. For 20 years
these sanstratains and arcanians had to get alone to survive and later became the Faraxins with a mix of arcanian technology and sanstratain magic they
came back to sanstrata Thus giving it technology and magic togeather. But little did the Sanstratains know of gorkaks hidden army that soon pillaged the land
and forced then to leave after the Faraxins had arrived. So the Sanstratains mixed with the Faraxins sailed to the other side of the planet Sanstrata and thus
Founded New sanstrata being thousands of miles away from old Sanstrata that ubermass had driven them away from. It was directly on the other side of the planet.
Years later after new sans had been doing very nicely and had lots of weapons and technology the Shenlons were discovered having been on a large island directly
below newsans. The shenlons and Sanstratains got alone very well and practly formed one nation. Soon after the Sanstratains dug a large holl through the world to new sans and made a tunneling system with pods that would transport you from new sans to old sans so that they could do back and forth in search of orbs and treasure in their old abbaonded home. This is the History of Sanstrata how from a once peaceful happy people were attacked and forced to leave their home rebuild and came back and brought back their home to a new land. Will you be the one to unite the orb of darkness and light or will you be going through the temples and quests of old sans or will you be buying swords and cloths in the shops and citys of new sans? Its up to you so welcome to Sanstrata and good luck!

There now you know I am making sans real. Sanstrata was great to me but I just want to make it better.

somebody said to me before "Your killing sans!!" unfortunatly at times I think the same thing -_- and yet I still keep at what i was doing

thoughs bodies don't look like they match the tileset, the tileset looks softer and as for the body's they look jagged and i dunno not matching lol.

I love those cliffs and the grass looks great and the bridge is neat as well.

Which version of Sanstrata will be used..? Version 1 (original and the better of the two), or Version 2 (the level generated one you have uploaded now, yuck).

Version one had the ship at the left of the dock in the bottom left corner. I remember when I had a beach home in the top left hand corner, above a jail I made. That was a really nice server

It is... If done properly.

In games it is usually done by putting a lot of contrast between the player and the background.

The player is mostly brighter then the background because developers want the gamer to focus on the main character(s).

I have seen other approaches but it is mostly dont by contrast.

oops i forgot to comment on this that last time i posted. yeah i know the sudden color change in grass really does need to be fixed, i was gonna get around to it sometime lol ive got a s***load of other stuff to do unfortunatly

*edit...at 3:30 am* also...eh...im too lazy to look for the person that said it to quote, but somebody thought that we would be bringing back olf levels with new tiles. thats true except for one small....well...very big thing - no more player houses. they were everywhere...pointless...im not sure if the people that owned them even spent more than a minute in them each day...

Okay...As you all or some know I owned Sanstrata for awhile after Prozac, Jinx, and Kirby. Well I have mixed feelings about this as well. So I'll give you the negative stuff first I guess...

~The BAD~

-Well one thing...Donald your story is kind of way off from the original Sanstrata story...x.x The Faraxians never came to sanstrata...They always lived away. Your story has too many varibals (sp? its 2 am). x.x and ubermass drove them away?...Ubermass didn't drive anyone away. -_- I banned him for wall hacking and hacking the ftp once. He hated me for that afterwords. But he never drove anyone away...Even while he was banned sans still had a steady count of 50-70+ people.
-I think your gonna change the server too much...

-Well If I perhaps help you (Donald) with a few ideas you could actually make sans really good...
-Like for example, keep the old storyline still going. Make it so you can build spaceships and go to other planets. just imply new tiles over the old ones if you must.
-Personally I think you should do this on a Gmap but its up to you
