Question !Idea

Just an idea to kick around, what if you put in one of those voice gens for people that don't have microphones? Like it reads what the people are saying and chats, and it is configurable like how the mic works. It'd probably also be more clear that microphones since you wouldn't need an input if it were built in and such.

Yes, many people that play this game can't read *sarcasm*

The opposite would work though =O Like you talk and the text appears in the the little text box so you can speak while sparring and such

That would be hard to do using graal since most of them programs cost over 2000 dollars alone. -_-

And hey, you should make your title give a brief discription of the subject, we already know it is an idea if it is this forum. -_-

1)They don't cost that much, one comes in Fruityloops, it's just a voice synthesizer(sp?).
2)It's not a matter of not being able to read, it'd be funny.

Lets use Microsoft Sam! lol, you gotta love his mechanical voice.
And anyway, wouldnt this be a bad Idea, can you imagine the size of the graal folder with a sound for every common word, and if it was put into place, people would want translations.

It wouldn't save the files, it would read them directly from the other clients chat. Perhaps something like getting the player's #c prop and voicing it. May lag for some, but you could disable it in theory.

Lol, how little you know. Its an analog voice. It uses software to do that. There are no individual wav files per letter per word. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but even games like Animal Crossing use an analog voice for thier 'Animalese' dialect. Perhaps Kaimetsu can explain it further.

The conversion wouldn't be done on the NPC Server. Anyway: I'm not sure how the latest technology works, but it certainly doesn't use individual files for each word. In the past I've seen neural nets trained to convert words into voice, and I'm guessing the same technique drives most modern software.

You are getting confusing now. If you type something, and something says it, then that wouldn't cost much, but something that records your voice and types it into text would.

Most likely because it has to read through accents and slurs. There are different ways to say a word and you have to train the software to know exactly what you say.

Your right, and that is why it would cost alot of money.

I don't think it would. FruityLoops has an text-to-voice synthesizer and only costs $50. And it comes with alot more than just that.

He was talking about voice-to-text though, and he's right, they can be very expensive.

Plugin!

Well if you've got a PC With MS Speech and good old Microsoft Sam, then make the Graal client interface with it, say, using a plugin. Then the computer does all the work, and your only transmitting text, which would THEN be voiced at the PC. Course, that wouldnt be much good for those without MS Speech but I'nm sure I saw a Windows patch for it for those who didnt have it.
It certaintly makes more sense than having to process all the sound and stream it. Too laggy and too much serverpower.

I have a voice to text thingy ma bobber... I dunno it was made like 4 years ago and i dont think it cost that much, you get a CD and a microphone headset, but it takes an hour to get it to know how u talk and how u pernounce each world and such, well not each word... it gives u different paragraphs and it reads the word as u say it.

text to voice would be a bad idea, then everyone would be blabbing about stupid nonsense, I do think that phrases could be added like they do with CS, that might be neat, although it would be pointless.
