It can get more complicated, depending on what you want. For example, how would you make it so that people can turn the filter on or off, such that the player could choose whether or not he wanted certain words filtered?

Well, even then it couldn't get very long...depending on how nice you would want it to look. Turning it on or off would be extremely simple, and the choosing words can be, depending on how you want the play to input the data. If you want it to look very nice, with your own custom typing stuff (keydown2), then it could get a little longer. If you just use the chat box, then its easy.

See that line (It's the 30th line of the script), well, it's where the words to be censored are. Here, the words "ghey", "plz" and "pls" are censored, you can add more words by seperating each word with a comma.

You asked "so what words does it censor". All the censored words are included in the script, so it was perfectly possible for you to find out for yourself.

Well, they're in the censor on Bomy Moon, but Jeff removed them from the script he posted because the forum censor would automaticly censor them out. If you're going to use the script online though, it's not really that hard to add them in.

I would think I would do it with a little button in the gui you click, and it sets a variable to true or false, true being on false being off.

Yeah, Kaimetsu, it wouldn't get that complicated turning it on and off for an individual.

I'm asking how you would script the censor system, not how the user interface would work. I think you greatly underestimate the difficulties involved.

As do you. I am not describing a system that selectively filters people, but rather one that allows the person to choose whether or not they see the profanity. How would either of you edit Jeff's script to allow this functionality?

Since message text shows globally, I am guessing that you would have to blank out all player's chat text and use showimg above their head depending on whether they would want to see it censored or not. Too much work for that. Just make it so that every room is a chat room and it shows it in a little box or something.

It could get even more complicated, too. Example: When the censor replaces words with less offensive alternatives, the words could appear in blue.
