I think if showpoly was used like:

where the dx would be from the first specified x and y. This would cause me less headaches in some things I am doing.

not much of a shortcut if you ask me, just make your dx and dy and add them to the x and y like so;
{x,y,x+dx,y,x+dx,y+dy,x,y+dy}

I do that now and it tends gets messy .

what I meant was set a variable to whatever long computation you have in the showpoly command and put the variable in there instead,

I know what you are talking about, it just seems like a new command would be better.
