Playerworld Review: Cynical

I'm going to make some reviews of the currents Graal Online Playerworlds. Starting for the newest one: Cynical.

Creativity - 5/10 - I didn't see many new things in the server. The jobs aren't that great, specially because some of them have the taste of Graal2001 (Current Graal Bomy Moon), like milking. But it got 5/10 in this category because of the levels. The tiling of the levels on Cynical is one of the best things of the server, specially because every level has an unique style of tiling. The Levels Team of the server must be very creative to make levels such as those.

Storyline - 3.5/10 - I couldn't find any sign of an existing storyline in the server (except for the quests). Even if it has a stoyline, I really couldn't find at first. If it has: try adding more references to it. If it doesn't: try adding one, because a good storyline is always nice.

Levels - 9.5/10 - Very very good! The greatest category of the server: levels. The server has an unique style of tiling that makes every single level nice and different from each other at the same time. It's a simple tiling, that does not use too many details, but it's also a nice style: lots of pathways and just some of grass and flowers. In my opinion, this is the best server in the category of levels. I just couldn't give it 10/10 because nothing is perfect.

NPCs - 7.5/10 - The Team actually made the gfx and the script of each npc, which is a good thing. Nothing "stolen" from others servers, speacially from Graal Bomy Moon (the place that everyone steals something). But they are just known NPCs, like Radio, Fishing Rod, Shovel and some weapons. The NPC Team could be a little more creative. Anyway, the GUI of the server is pretty nice. Simple and objective, showing only what's necessary.

Quests - 7/10 - I liked the quests of the server. They are pretty original and each one has something to keep the player entertained with the server, like finding hidden places, doing things to enable passages and etc. They are not only a bunch of baddies that you have to pass through. Try adding some more quests related to jobs, it would be nice.

I'm not going to add an Overall Score, because it's an already up Playerworld.
But I really enjoyed the server!

Just try adding some more things to do like events and tradable items. That could improve the player interaction and improve the server itself.

I hope you people liked my review. That's all for now, I will do some more later about the others playerworlds.

All I've found on Cynical is 2 buildings water and a bunch of trees. Maybe I should explore some more.

I must agree with the review though, the server has POTENTIAL though, I like the fact that it is very "classic-esque" but sometimes not too well done and sometimes too much like classic.

hey, i'd like to get hired too. wanted to be a PWA for 2 years now but your review was completely off.

they have one of the most consistant story lines around until you finish the quests.

the levels are average at best

the npcs are full of bugs and bad techniques

and finally, the quests are litterally ALL hack the baddies with 1 pot maze and 1 push/pull blocks "puzzle" in each.

what are you thinking???
Good reviews don't get you hired
Accurate ones would do some good i'd think.

I disagree, if you have a talented writer then background stories own. however never in graal history has there been a good writer for some reason.

I used to be an editor at Ps2fantasy.com, if that counts, heh. I felt like that I was no where near the quality of the owners of the website, but they are really great people and they thought I was good with reviewing games. I'm taking journalism classes and getting A+ in them, so I guess that is my main career objective for now since there is nothing else I can think of doing..

Oh, to get back on subject. Yes, Cynical should get an automatic 7.5 for having no real storyline.

Personally, I dont want cyberx to get mad at me, neither I dont want others to get mad at me, but you dont needa re-review servers, It totally shows ur trying to get urself into the job without actually, "asking" , yet I dont understand why, If you own/manage a great server.Not only that but theres something misunderstandable.. Almost all the people who play or played maloria, loved his review.. Although I wont argue. It was quite good..

Interesting review CyberX although I don't think you spent much time there to give it a thorough review. I'll give my short review

Levels: 4/10
The levels are highly over-rated in my opinion. There are lots of tile errors all over the place, and the tileset works only for levels starting with cyn. So when you are walking your tileset is constantly changing from default to normal.

NPC's: 5/10
Most npc's on Cynical I have zipped up on my computer. A good portion of them came from !booJ's old website he ran and just about anyone who played in the past 1 1/2 years that browses graal fansites probably have seen/downloaded them. So far from what I've seen nothing new npcwise. I still have a lot of exploring to do so there could possibly be new stuff.

Creativity : 2/10
Not much is actually new. I do like the window for the hats. I've seen something similar to it on I think Andor or Divided Kingdoms. (one of them p2p servers). The cheese game was interesting and challenging, although I think I have seen it somewhere before.

Quests: 1/10
The quests that I found were annoying. You guys have a riddle quest made by Acid Telvecho that used to be on N-Pulse. I don't really like riddle quests, but what made it stood out was the fact that it was already on another playerworld in the past.

There was a volcano quest for a hammer that I found really annoying. There was explosions all over, and a few paths were blocked to where you had no way of maneuviring yourself to keep from getting hit. So it was a good chance that you would be kill a few times if you were low on health.

There was another quest that was a carry the pot to the door type quest. I didn't waste my tim with it. I lagged my way through to get to the next room... err correction the door linked to the same room, just to the opposite side. The entrance to this quest was weird as well. A part of the tree I passed by was chopped off so it looked to me like a tile error. The first tie I passed by I thought it was just that because there were numerous tile errors all over the place. I found out it led to a quest when a fellow guild member told me to go through it. This quest was similar to 2 other pot maze quests. (i don't like pot maze quests!!! :grrr: )

Storyline: 7.5
there was none so you get default score.

I still haven't played the entire playerworld so this score is pretty low. If I got through more of it then I would probably have given it a higher score.

Total for a partial review: 19.5/50

Recommendations:
Take full advantage of your scripting abilities when making quests. Don't just get a quest and slap it somewhere with no thought. If things were a bit more organized it would definitely have gotten a better score. This score pretty much gives you my impression of the playerworld. I may pop up once in a while to pk Deek and other old buddies of mine.

This is just to "princedark's" post...The quest were rated 1/10? Remeber It isnt always what you like, meaning, at that rate,when you review playerworlds, heh I doubt any will make it... No offense..

I understand.
Although I think they could do a lot better if they spent more time on the quests and put more thought into them. I think it would get them more points not only in the quests area, but also in creativity and maybe npc's.
Oh well. heh I'm not a reviewer and don't wish to be one. I just seem to have a different view of Cynical than most others and it's not really a full rview, because I still have so muh to explore and I doubt I did all their quests in my few hours of playing time there.

Who are you?
I really doubt that a new guy to the community would make a good PW Reviewer, since you have to be experienced with Graal and specially with Playerworlds to get the job...

Really , I dont care If i make it or not... I know that If I have good or bad grammar skills, I wont make it, I just wanted to review a current playerworld... I know that no matter what, I wont ever make it to playerworld inspector, so I aint doing it for the job, just doing it.. to .. ?? do it? :o
