Something to avoid ships crashing into each other

It gets really annoying when in a navy battle the ships keep crashing into each other, they get stuck, and you start boarding other ships and getting stuck. While I am 100% for the concept that when you contact another ship you should be able to board it, I don't like it how that the ships always get stuck and you can't see anything when they are together. So the only logical solution I can come up with is that when ships ram into each other they have to take some sort of damage. Also I think that the sides of ships (where the ladders are) need to have the same thing as docks do, so when you get in touch with a dock it automatically "locks on" to the boat.

Well, you just lock on to the boat at speeds below 15%? And a plank appears across the both boats.
