Role-playing with Pirates

I have to post this because I have a strong obligation to do so, under pressure from my peers and also because I need to explain myself.

First of all, I apologize that I just left in the middle of an important RP but these were circumstances beyond my control. Yes, it was kind of absent minded of me to just assume that the captives would be freed. Now, time to bring my concerns forward.

1) A lot of Dustarians have been telling me that the Pirates do not allow magic on board their ship. I'm not talking about *OMG MAGIKAL FLASH OF DEATH DUSTAREE IS FREE*, I am talking about things like confusion, flashes of light or other simple things that would not kill someone but merely confuse them or distract them. I find this unfair that the Pirates don't consider it legitimate, seen as though Dustari has a strong wizardry division and loves weilding magic for it's own purpose.

2) During the particular role-play on the night of April 1st, there were at one point 11 Dustarians on, and three pirates on. The worst odds against us were still 8 Dustari to 3 pirates. Could someone please tell me how we could not save our men? In the past, we have always been able to clear the deck then lower a rope and save them, but this time we were not for some reason. Please don't tell me you have a pit of doom going through your cargohold that is a portal to hell, I don't buy that.

3) I like the ransom idea, I think it's a neat addition to the Pirates RP skills, but I can see where it's going. I agree, that paying a small ransom of maybe 50 gralats like we did was a good and realistic idea, but then you guys were demanding 10 times as much for half the hostages. That's not acceptable. I don't think you should abuse the ransom system, and if by some mistake one of our men falls into your cargohold you demand hundreds of gralat. Maybe in the future we should grab your pirates and demand ransom for them too?

4) Where is Ghostie's limit to power? Okay, so he has some connection with the underworld, and he has the ability to control some of our members through his powers, I don't mind that, in fact, it makes good for better role-playing, but I was told we cannot take him hostage or cannot kill him because he will kill us all? Sorry, I don't think that is a good idea.

5) You don't need any money

. You got a ton of upgrades compliments of Kaimetsu a few days ago and I bet you didn't even pay a cent for it. Conversely, Dustari has to pay a wandering architect (level maker) to finish our township, even though we aren't supposed to.

I'd like to stress this is not a flame, but I want to bring some concerns up so we can address these problems.

1) Pirate's do have magic (the shaman section)...it's just we don't think the fireball is any good for RPing and your people constantly use it

2) We can open and close the cargohold now

3) I think ransom should be 200 g top...I wasnt on at the time so I don't know what they were offering

4) He's the lord of the underworld

5) No clue what this is about

Since Ghosty is out of Hell, his power should be somewhat limited, he would have to channel alot of energy out of the underworld...have you guys ever thought of employing some clergy to anti-pirate division?

I went there to RP with them... they just raped me RP style then killed me... I didn't even swing my sword once... Just RPed..

I also did channel my power for serveral times

What bugs me is when the pirates say "u r ded" or "y wont u let me in?" Then I tell them not to talk like an idiot, they say "pirates r supposed to talk like this" It is soo annoying. Yesterday, Dragon X was shooting fireballs, saying "We have cannons that can move around"

Gah that bugs me too "u r ded" god I'd just want to kill someone just for saying that. and Pirates are NOT suppose to talk like that I'll deal with it if you can give me their names. DragonX seems to be a hypocite now hmm?

hey, dustari aren't great roleplayers either. I love how I escape with them way far behind me, not nearly close enough to see me, yet after i'm halfway across the world they come running up trying to "catch me"

i guess they just opened their magical dustari maps!
they don't roleplay, they just harass you

Edit: Okay let's face it, I just read Kawaii's pos and I am pretty sad

All the good RP'ers are leaving, all the good players are leaving. We have to strike a compromise. If you want good numbers on Graal 2002, then you HAVE to teach the new people how to role-play. Yes, they aren't perfect, but they learn. They will learn like we did, or as we did as kids, and sooner or later they will become just as able. Let's give it some time... I know a lot of Dustarians who have greatly improved in role-playing

Ok, this thread is rather old, but I will post anyway. =\

That bugs me SO much. I was killed by a PC (don't remember who, it was when we didn't have that cease fire thing going) and 3 of them that were on the ship PMed me saying "u r ded" and other variations of that exact sentence. =\

But now they don't do that, because they're not killing me/holding me hostage/harassing me/talking like that, so I don't mind as much...
