It was shortly before closing time, right about the
time I was getting ready to head home for another
sleepy night in the cupboards, searching for a snack
that I'm sure to not find. I had almost missed it,
but as I lifted to keys up to lock Zalactic Labs'
doors, I noticed the bomy-bopot specimen jolt up from
it's bomy and into standing position.
Usually I don't think much of it, after all, it was
closing time and a sure time to be safe. But this
time it was a bit uncanny, for the specimen seemed a
bit shaky. I hurried, and into meer trembling flight,
I managed to scatter myself onto the floor. I hurried
to my balance and made it back up to see what was
going on.
Quickly, but not hesitantly, the specimen jumped to
the exit. I was a bit shocked at this point, since
the specimen usually seemed a bit frightened to go
anywhere in the lab without equipping his muscles and
appendages to ready himself for any danger. I peered
out, and to my surprise, a swarm of bomy-bopots were
gathering and awaiting out in the spring!

It all started when I was sitting outside the
lab one morning enjoying the breeze from the
lake neerby. Being underground working night
and day had taken its toll on me, and I needed
to come up for some fresh air.
As I was sitting in the grass enjoying the light
mist in the sky, I heard some rustling in a bush
neerby. At first I thought nothing of it, it was
quite common for creatures to be moving about the
bush in early morning, especially in a forest as
thick as this. It wasn't until I heard the sticks
of the bush scratching something that my attention
was drawn to it.
I pulled a thick glove out of my pocket and slipped
it over my hand, like I always did when dealing with
unknown creatures. Slowly I moved toward the bush,
crouched down low to the ground and quiet as I could
be. As I got closer the rustling stopped, and I heard
nothing. I slowly and carefully spread the bush apart,
and found, to my surprise, an ordinary shell.
My partner was busy working on some weird project I
had nothing to do with for the last month or so, so
I decided not to bother him and just figure this
thing out myself. So, I stood up, and tapped the
shell on the side with my foot.
Next thing I knew, the shell was bouncing off trees,
flying through the air whenever it hit a bump in the
ground. A few times I barely avoided getting my head
severed off by ducking quickly, or moving an inch to
the side.
Eventually, the shell stopped moving, and stood still.
I waked up to it, and placed my hand on the top of the
shell very carefully, making sure it wouldn't move.
I then put my other hand on the rim of the shell, and
slowly lifted it off the ground. Turning it over,
I saw a small pair of boots curled up inside the shell.
I looked around to see if there were any more, and,
seeing there weren't, I took the shell back down to
the lab, and placed it on the floor in the research
room, just in case it decided to bounce around again,
so nothing would be damaged. I closed the door to the
room, went back to the desk, poured myself some coffee,
and started looking through piles of books to find out
what this creature was.
