Well, to make a tree first off you need to know how a tree looks (I mean of course you do, but it's a bit hard to just draw right from your mind). My suggestion would be to keep an image of say, a tree, on the side in your image editor and look at it. Study the lines, shading etc. You don't have to copy it, since that's just copying, but look and study.
It's like the principle of sketching flowers, or painting fruits. It's not exciting, but it teaches you. Art is a major trial-and-error process, and it takes time to get good. Hard to master, but possible for more or less everyone.
