Something similar happened to me in about 1.34/1.35.
I came on and I had magic and 20 hearts, and level 4 sword, and all that stuff. So I went PKing and got banned for it. Then when they found out I didn't do anythings I got unbanned and then later on I got banned again for "Hacking" because I had 12 hearts, because I had like 9 hearts at the time that it happened, and when they fixed me they just gave me 12
