XP is set to automatically restart when you get a BSOD. That's probably what's happening. If you want to disable the auto restart to find out what's causing the BSOD, do this:

Right click My Computer
Go to Properties
Click the "Advanced" tab
Under "Startup and Recovery", click "Settings"
In the dialog that comes up, there's a check box for "Automatically restart" under the "System Failure" box.
