They have whatever role your rping gives to them - personally, I usually have tea with Brigid

Like maybe instead of just pressing the ~ button to pray,
and be in idle, why not offer things to them, and in return
they give us maybe the prayers, or items.
I don't like the idea of buying items and prayers. Sacrifices are fine, but only if they're balances, godess-related and don't provide too large a bonus. A nice idea would be to gice parts of the godess' enemy monster to prove your worth, otehrwise the godess will reject you.

But we also have to kill things in their name instead of

Holy pking? No, thanks...

Kingdoms should have an official god, or cult.
That would limit the possibilities you have - GK lives from diversity, and followers of different gods. If a kingdom has one official god, people will either be restricted in some way, or it would be pointless anyway. Specially as there are more gods than kingdoms.

Using the gods, can also add to a kingdom war. (Religion)
RPing could already do that - but see above.

Maybe pictures of your god, or like little altars in their name in your house,
can be nice, and then you can offer like a heart to it, and maybe increase
grace.
I'd like small house-altars, but rather for rping and decoration purpose, no altar effects.
