You do have a point, but you still need to rp so this plain black dagger becomes the shard of a demon's bone you came across in your youth, almost got yourself killed, till his own wrath collapsed the cave you found him in, crushing the creature under tons of mountainside, while his leg remained unharmed and you crafted a weapon from it, inventing stories about how you slew the demon in it's sleep.
Or, it can be a normal weapon to "pwn".
In my opinion, looks can sure help, but they're worthless if you don't/don't know how to rp. Specially as players who accumulate allmighty items tend to invent allmighty stories, but that's beside the point.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't rp on screen, but the system does not promote that, in my opinion, as I tend to write a longer line every now and then, exceeding the amount you can read as long as it's displayed, which is specially annoying as it doesn't get logged in some way. Imagine how rp-ish it will look if every second comment is "say again?"
