AMD processors do not use a GHZ number, they use a Performance Ratio rating. Also, they have a name, Athlon (or Duron, K5, K6, etc.)...Just saying AMD followed by 2.3 is not enough information to really know what you are talking about. You could have been talking about the Athlon 64 FX-51 for all I know (though it's 2.2 GHZ). The only feasible upgrade (unless you have a good AMD socket 462 chipset) that I would consider from AMD would be an Athlon 64 3000+ system. The higher clocked P4s perform better than the socket 462 athlons.

You didn't say you were asking what it was. You were telling us what you thought it was, and you were obviously nowhere near correct because you know little about computer hardware.

More like the other way around.
Pentiums have to be clocked higher to equal the performance of an Athlon because of the long pipeline of the Pentium 4.
Also, in general, Athlon systems are best for games (especially the AMD64), while Pentium 4s are best for multimedia work (like streaming video, etc)..
