I believe the LZW (LWZ? I keep mixing it up) patent caused it so that any commercial usage of .gif format (not just creation) which used the encoding incurs royalties which must be paid.
To be on the safe side (since the patent has not expired yet in many countries non-US), use .mng.
It has expired in the United States though. |
