The unwritten laws of the world say such. I'm sorry for assuming the tournaments would be spars, but that's mostly what I've seen or heard of. The only other thing I can think of that I've seen being done is an RPing tournament where people had to act out some sort of scene and act like some kind of character.
The difference between my suggestions and yours is that you're asking for what we should be able to commonly and easily expect from a game without even having to mention it. In other words, you're asking for, what is sadly considered "too much" in the case of Graal. I'm asking for about 1/2 of that. Maybe we're both asking for "too much" though. It's probably all a matter of perspective anyways.

We've heard of these plans several times. It would be nice if something is at least started. Maybe start by giving back one item. We all know which one we'd like back the the best. So bring that one back. It's pointless to even name it. I dare not speak, write, or type its name at this moment. Bringing back its creation-possibility will even give the economy a little "spanking" for being bad.

That's just IMHO.
If the problem with removing the items is because people believe they "worked" hard for their items because they paid so much plat or diamonds to have them, then there is no problem at all. The only people who actually "work" for their items are the ones who pay real money, such as USD, to have items on GK. That is their own anyways as it is advised and probaly even requested that we do not do so. Discussing a transaction is even banned from the community. People who play a game all day long and think they're "working" seriously must gain a sense of reality. Even those who get paid to do so are still simply playing (like athletes). If they are still fed up with this, then tough luck to them. They will complain. They will eventually stop complaining and continue playing or quit. More people will be able to come to the game since there will no longer be that major problem which causes an inbalance in the game. It's just a simple, quick, and easy way to fix everything. No work is involved. Just the hit of a button or two (resetting the server).
