And the main reason for this is because the fastest AMD processor available clock rate wise is under 3 GHZ.
It's pretty amazing how well their chips keep up with the pentiums despite being several hundread megahertz slower. They still just don't have quite enough speed to beat the latest ones with hyperthreading unfortunately.
