They run away from home, because of parents, abuse etc. They end up in the streets of metropolitan areas. They have a bit of cash, and buy some drugs to give em a high. Then they're addicted. So they turn to prostitution etc to get their cash. And the pimp who hired them for a prostitute wont let em go. So they're stuck selling their bodies and on drugs. Not the best of lives
