see by my definition a lamer is not a newbie, it's somewho who claims to be good at everything and yet they actually suck.
Example: I ownz you and wil pk ur arss = I actually suck at pk'ing and can't spell worth a crap
Example 2: You lamer = You killed me once and now that I can't get revenge i'll call you what i actually am.

I have more examples, but i'm sure you all get the point
