The tenant can make chests to store his things in and get his own key, so that way theperson renting the house couldn't steal his things some how.

Problem: What happens if the house decays? The chest is destroyed?
Suggestion: How about a bank? A house with lots of chests each belonging to a different person, where they can all go to store their stuff.
