I use a bamboo stick. It's not the best, only adds 5 damage, but it's quick and has an extended range for poking monsters before they can get close enough to hit you back. Then you pay a priest to enchant it with bile and
it works well. But then when you get enough HP that it doesn't matter, you get a flaming sword of bile, which can cause insanely high amounts of damage quite quickly.
