BEFORE Aftershock. Which was about 2.5-3 (or more) years ago.
And it's simple... the dugeons are far away... when they die they are warped further away... so soon they'll run out of food and die, and die, and die, and die.
(And PS Pith... Without Newbies... there would be no Graal what so ever... kthxbai)
