Why?

I was looking at the screenshot on the main website area, and it was a screenshot of a ship shooting bombs. Why is it shooting bombs? I thought cannons were suppose to shoot cannon balls? Do they light the bombs and stick them into the cannon to shoot?
Captain: Let's put a bomb in the cannon!
Ship Mate 1: Aye aye, Captain!
*lights bomb and puts it in cannon*
Captain: Fire the cannon!
Ship Mate 1: Aye, Captain!
*fires cannon*
BOOM
*flashy lights, explosion* |
