I completely agree. I personally think we should forget about 2k1 entirely --- none of this colonization crap, no postapocalyptic rebuilding, no references to events on 2k1, no characters transferred from one server to the other, nothing. A completely fresh start. Forget about similarities in the geography. This is a chance to fix the mistakes we made in 2k1 --- why drag it all over with us?
But that's the kind of thing everyone would need to decide on together.
