I didn't sell my flame beanie and contribute my 50g (worth that at the time) to making the economy worse. You shouldn't get a reward for something like that. It will be strange without my hats. It will be strange for everybody to have nothing. You shouldn't be allowed to keep it because you feel stranger than all the rest. Everyone should be treated equal. If you start out the game with an unfair advantage.. well.. then.. you have an unfair advantage! Thats unfair! =P
