That signifies different depths in the "hole" in the ground...
and your level ain't too pretty, jazz up the path, add more detail, add maybe a tree clump, make the path acctually go off the edge of the screen so you can connect thre level to somewhere, take out 2 of those gates, make it so you can sit in the chairs...
