Comunity is definately a big part of a fun playerworld. Allowing players to put up their own levels is a grate way to help build a comunity. Haveing a nice handfull of quests for the standard items (e.g. the swords, shields, some hearts, magic is always fun, and then a few *cool* npc weapons.) Don't make the quests too easy, but don't make them stupid either, i.e. a quest that consists of 3-8 rooms filled with badies to kill to get to the next room, then a boss, is overdone, and stupid. Make your quests unique, give them a small story to it, and make the player need to use his brain a little. Also, don't be stupid and give out like 20 hearts, in simple quests, all it does is turn your server into a pk server where instead of talking, making levels, and haveing fun, you get all these people who spend all day killing newbies (who will probably be turned off from your server and leave) keep it fair, I wouldn't put a new server online with more than 2 heart quests. Make the quests chalangeing aswell, a good quest should take someone at least 4 or 5 tries before being able to beat it. (Also watch your scripting to make sure players can't cheat by pausing in the boss room, and restarting graal so they re-spawn there each time.) I think you'll notice that alot of people are attracted to smaller servers that don't have alot of things on it, but enough to get into the server, because then you build a group of people right off who want to improve the server and help out. Think of how Classic (or the originonal Graal Online.) started, it was nowhere near the size it is today, and everywhere you look in Classic you see a bit of History. People like Sardon, Antago, Lord Chimp, Fox and Tyhm, have all left a peice of themselfs there. Thats one of the things I think makes Graal a desireable game, the fact that players can get as involved as they want, they can make the levels they play, and they can even become staff to help other players. It all has to do with making people feel good. Thats what games are for right? Players like to the world evolving around them so they can say "I remember when..." Thats why Classic stays popular when these new playerworlds with 500 levels on opening day fail. |
