Look at it this way - a bomy can only walk as fast as their leg span. Check out the image attached (not quite to scale, but it should give you a rough idea).
Notice that the bomy has no noticeable legs. Therefore, its step span is quite short and must take more steps to cover the same amount of distance a human could. |
