People are weird over stuff like this. It's not about being friends, it's about being sufficiently well-known as a competent person to be selected. Attaining this status inevitably means you become friends with some admins along the way, but that's not
why you get selected.
Well... Sometimes it is, but you can't apply that rule to everybody. Most staff seem intelligent enough to work with some professionalism on the matter.
