A golem is a creature constructed of inanimate objects (usually clay or stone, but can even be random junk or even dead bodies) that is controlled by the magic user that summoned it until the time the magic user destroys it by releasing his magical hold. There is one european legend about a clay golem that was the protector of a town, each mayor (or whoever the leader was) passed the awakening spell to his successor until a time the golem was needed, then they just woke it up to fight, and put it back to rest after the battle.
